Samsung TL500
By BRIM | February 24, 2010

Perhaps designed to be a Canon S90 killer, the Samsung TL500 ($450) is the latest point-and-shoot to adopt several DSLR-level features. Among these are a 24mm, 3x optical zoom, f/1.8 Schneider lens, Aperture priority, Shutter priority, and Manual shooting modes, dual image stabilization, RAW support, a 10 megapixel, 1/1.7-inch CCD, and a front control wheel. Unfortunately video shooting is limited to 640×480, but the gorgeous, swiveling 3-inch AMOLED LCD should more than make up for it.

Puma Phone
By BRIM | February 24, 2010

We’ll be the first to admit that Nike would have been the first shoe company we’d expect to launch its own handset, but that doesn’t make the Puma Phone ($TBA) any less cool. Designed by Puma and Sagem Wireless, the Puma Phone is an “active smartphone,” offering the expected features — like mobile Internet, messaging, GPS localization, video calling, Bluetooth, a 2.8 inch touch screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash, music player, and 3G — as well as sport-minded niceties like GPS, a compass, a pedometer, GPS tracker, and stopwatch. Oh, and it’s got a built-in solar cell for charging when you’re out on the trail, at the track, or just relaxing by the pool.

HTC Legend
By BRIM | February 24, 2010

Believe it not, the smartphone that looks the most like a MacBook isn’t from Apple. The HTC Legend ($TBA) is a new Android 2.1 handset featuring an Apple-like unibody aluminum design, as well as a 3.2-inch AMOLED screen — not as roomy or sharp as the one found on the company’s Google-branded Nexus One, but no slouch, either — a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, a 600 MHz processor, and the requisite Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
